My name is Kay Owen. I have loved Middle Eastern Dance (a.k.a. belly dance) since first taking classes in Memphis, Tennessee in 1972. I have attended many workshops over the years and have performed professionally in Memphis. I began teaching in Beaufort as a volunteer for the OLLI continuing education program with the University of South Carolina in 2006. Since that time I have taught classes in several venues including Dataw, Spring Island, Oldfield, Yoga Chandra, ArtWorks, Low Country Performing Arts, Beaufort Performing Arts, and Habersham.
I am also an actress. I will soon be appearing in the play Southern Hospitality, a zany comedy by Jones, Hope, and Wooten — writers of The Dixie Swim Club. The play will be at the Shed in Port Royal February 9-11 and 16-18. The times are 8 PM on Fridays & Saturdays and 2 PM on Sundays. There will also be one performance on Saturday, March 3 at 8 PM at the community theater in Dillon, SC. Ticket prices are $22 and can be ordered online through the Coastal Stage Productions website.
